The NBA is arguably the most popular sport in North America. There are many legendary teams that have dominated the league, but these five stand out among the rest.
The 2016 warriors record is the best team in NBA history. They have a chance to go 82-0 this season, but it will be tough against some of the legendary superteams that are still alive today.
Superteams have been increasingly common in recent years, as great players have realized that collaborating with one another increases their chances of winning NBA championships. Of course, skill wins games, and some of the greatest teams in league history have dominated their respective eras.
But what if we could assemble a group of five superteams capable of going 82-0 and destroying the 73-9 record of the Golden State Warriors? Here are the five most unstoppable superteams ever assembled from the starting lineups of the game’s best players.
“Perfect Two-Way Play” in Superteam 1.0
Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kevin Garnett, and Bill Russell are among the NBA’s best players.
From perimeter scoring to lockdown defense, this team has it all on both sides of the court. Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan will undoubtedly take all of their team’s shots, scoring bucket after bucket. The rationale for this is straightforward: the remainder of the lineup is based on defense and hustling.
Scottie Pippen is one of the greatest small forwards of all time, while Garnett and Russell are two of the best paint defenders in NBA history. Pippen can push the break with Iverson and Jordan ready to shoot with Garnett making stops and Russell grabbing 20 rebounds per game. This squad would go 82-0 in no time, and it would be easy for them to accomplish so.
“Supreme Efficiency” is the theme of Superteam 2.0.
Hakeem Olajuwon, John Stockton, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Charles Barkley
The focus of this lineup is on efficiency. John Stockton is the all-time leader in assists and steals, as well as a great perimeter shooter. Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon would demolish defenses when the Hall of Fame point guard fed their bigs.
Stockton would have no trouble feeding Barkley and Olajuwon, who would each shoot over 55 percent from the field. Stockton is draining the three if it is open. Dwyane Wade is also one of the greatest slashers in NBA history, and he’ll be a great complement to the bigs. Oh, and don’t forget about LeBron James, one of the best leaders and all-around athletes of all time. Due to the greatest basketball IQ and efficiency ever seen on an NBA court, this team will go 82-0.
“Unstoppable Offense” is the theme of Superteam 3.0.
Shaquille O’Neal, Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki
This squad is based on outscoring and outshooting the opponent, and it’s the most powerful offensive we’ve ever seen. Even with the former’s defensive inefficiency, Curry and Kobe will be superior than any backcourt they face. Kevin Durant can score 30 points against anybody, therefore he’s a natural match beside any great who plays the game his way, such as Kobe Bryant.
Dirk is probably the greatest shooting big man in NBA history, and he, like Durant, can shoot over any defender. With the other four guys on the perimeter, having Shaq in the post is absurd because he will score every time. If you try to double-team Shaq, you’ll pay the price. If he doesn’t, O’Neal will be a walking 30-15. This squad will go 82-0 and average over 125 points each game.
“Leaders And Competitors” is the theme of Superteam 4.0.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Isiah Thomas, Kawhi Leonard, Larry Bird, Tim Duncan
You will win whenever Isiah Thomas and Larry Bird are in the same lineup. Thomas and Bird are two of the greatest winners in history, willing to go to any length to get an edge on or off the court. After all, they have a combined total of five NBA titles and have dominated the league in terms of competition and drive.
Tim Duncan is the greatest power forward of all time, while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar may be the greatest basketball player of all time. This squad will suffocate opponents and tear their hearts out with the addition of a methodical Kawhi Leonard who plays at his own speed. In any season, Superteam 4.0 will be systematic and gradually blow opponents away towards the conclusion of the game to finish 82-0.
“Flash And Style” by Superteam 5.0
Wilt Chamberlain, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, James Harden, Julius Erving, Karl Malone
We’ll get Showtime whenever Magic Johnson leads the line. Magic is the best and flashiest point guard in NBA history, and he will improve all of his colleagues. Putting James Harden and Julius Erving on the wing for Magic Johnson would be a joy to see. Whatever you think of Harden, his stepback three and ankle-breaking abilities can put on a show.
All game long, Magic and Harden will send lobs to Erving, who may be the greatest in-game dunker we’ve ever seen. This three will easily exceed and demoralize any club in the league, but Karl Malone and Wilt Chamberlain bolster this group even more. While Magic is unbeatable on the break, he can feed it to Malone and Chamberlain in the half-court to completely demolish defenses. Not to add, Wilt is one of the most well-known “flashy” players in the game’s history. This squad is excellent in every aspect of the game and will go 82-0.
