In an interview with ESPN, LaMelo Ball has been quoted as saying that he is a better passer than five NBA players. They include MVP candidate LeBron James, teammate Lonzo Ball, and set a record for assists by a rookie in the NBA Finals, Kyle Lowry. He also said that he was a better passer than former NBA players like Stephen Curry and Tony Parker. LaMelo Ball has had a remarkable freshman season at UCLA, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made and 3-pointers attempted, and joining the list of players who led their teams to a national championship.
LaMelo Ball is 19 years old and in his second season in the NBA. While most in the know agree that Ball has a chance to be an above average NBA player in the future, there is a lot of talk in the media about LaMelo’s current play. Basically, LaMelo is criticized for not being a good enough passer, and it would seem he is not the best at making plays for others. However, when it comes to passing, many in the NBA specifically LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, John Wall, and Chris Paul who LaMelo is compared to, have a better resume. So, if he is not a better passer than these guys, who is he a better passer than? ~~
One of the biggest issues facing young basketball players these days is a lack of passing ability. Many pros have very underrated passing ability, but the point is that most young players have very poor passing ability. LaMelo Ball is a prime example of this, as he is one of the best ball handlers in all of basketball, yet is only a mediocre passer. In a recent interview, LaMelo stated that he is a much better passer than some of the NBA’s best players, including LeBron James, who has been touted as one of the best passers of all time.
Ball, LaMelo has only played in one NBA season, yet he already feels like one of the greatest players in the league. Without a question, the 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year has a unique talent set. Ball thinks he is the greatest in the NBA at one specific talent, a big claim for a rookie to make.
LaMelo Ball claims to be the NBA’s greatest passer.
For GQ Sports’ Actually Me feature, Ball sat down with the magazine. The series enables athletes to go incognito on social media and react to comments posted on Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok, among other sites.
The native of Anaheim, California, replied to a Quora question in which he was grouped with five other NBA players. Ball’s job was to rate each player according to their passing skills. LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Trae Young, Chris Paul, and Ben Simmons were the other players.
“The first one seems to be correct… He answered, “LaMelo Ball.” He then placed Jokic, the reigning MVP, in second place, followed by James.
He couldn’t quite figure out what sequence the other players were in, but he made it plain that it didn’t matter.
I was in the top three, I reasoned. So, I got a top 1…me.
After making the remark, Ball laughed, but his attitude indicates he genuinely thinks he is the greatest passer in the game.
In his first season, Ball showed glimpses of brilliance.

LaMelo Ball was chosen third overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He went on the court hoping to make up for lost time after missing the start of the regular season due to injury.
In 51 games, the Chino Hills High School graduate averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.9 rebounds. He was 17th in the NBA in assists and ninth in steals per game this season. Ball also became the NBA’s youngest player to ever have a triple-double.
Ball is already 20 years old, and he still has a lot of basketball left in him. He can do it all on offense. He’s an excellent passer and scorer. He’ll have to work on his defending, but it’s difficult to criticize a guy so young.
Confidence is one of his best qualities. He definitely isn’t lacking in that regard. He understands that he belongs on the court with the greatest of the best, and he intends to show it every time he steps onto the court.
LaMelo Ball claims to be superior than his brother.
Ball had yet another amusing response to an online inquiry. “Is LaMelo Ball better than Lonzo Ball, or is his play style simply radically different?” the inquiry asked.
In true LaMelo Ball flair, he selected himself as the Ball brothers’ greatest player. He firmly said, “Imma go with LaMelo Ball is superior.” “It’s simply a fact,” says the speaker.
When the Hornets faced the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2020 season, the two brothers got into a fight. Lonzo Ball had a game-high 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds. His younger brother had 22 points, five assists, and four rebounds to his credit.
Ball out-dueled his elder brother, establishing his claim at the top of the Ball family’s hooper pecking order. Both have similar playing approaches, yet they have distinct abilities. Both are excellent passers, but LaMelo Ball is a stronger scorer and defender than Lonzo Ball.
The Ball brothers, who are 23 and 20 years old, will continue their fight for many years to come.
