Michael Carrick, Manchester United’s interim manager, has left the club with immediate effect. The former player had been in charge since Jose Mourinho departed Old Trafford at the end of last season and led them to a Europa League final victory over Ajax before being sacked on Thursday.

Michael Carrick, who was the interim manager of Manchester United, has left the club with immediate effect. This comes as a surprise to many considering that he only took over the role on an interim basis in February. The news also means that Rangnick era looms at Old Trafford.

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom — Following his term as caretaker manager, Michael Carrick has opted to quit Manchester United, the club has announced.

Carrick has opted to stand down from his post as first-team coach and will depart the club with immediate effect, according to a statement made minutes after United’s 3-2 triumph against Arsenal. Ralf Rangnick, who was in the bleachers watching the game, will take over as coach on Friday and will remain in charge until the conclusion of the season.

“My tenure at this fantastic club will go down in history as the finest years of my career,” Carrick added. “I never in my wildest dreams could have envisaged winning so many titles when I originally joined over 15 years ago, and I will never forget the amazing experiences I have both as a player and as a member of the coaching staff.”

“However, after much consideration and analysis, I have come to the conclusion that now is the best moment for me to leave the club.” I’d want to express my gratitude to all of the players, with a particular mention for the backstage crew; working long hours with such a wonderful bunch of people has been a true joy, and I’ve established some lifelong connections.

“I am, and always will be, a Manchester United supporter who will attend as many games as possible. I wish Ralf, the staff, the players, and the supporters nothing but the best in the future, and I look forward to cheering on the guys from the stands.”

Carrick takes over as interim manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired on November 21. He guided United to victories against Villarreal and Arsenal, as well as a draw against Chelsea, in his three games in charge.

Alejandro Moreno and Shaka Hislop have pleaded with Ralf Rangnick to maintain Cristiano Ronaldo at the core of his ambitions.

After the game, United captain Harry Maguire stated, “He just talked to us in the changing room, an emotional dressing room really, as he’s been a major part of this club for a long time as a player but also as a coach.” “He’s been a terrific servant in terms of his coaching, a legend at the club, he’s won everything at the club and he’s been a great player for this club.”

“He’s a genuinely kind guy, all the boys look up to him, and he’s been fantastic with all of us. We’ll miss him, of course, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Carrick, who ended his playing career in 2018 and went on to serve as a coach under Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho, was the last to leave the field following the win against Arsenal, pausing to applaud the Stretford End.

“After 15 years of tremendous service to the club as a player and as a coach, Michael departs with the deepest gratitude and best wishes of everyone at Manchester United,” said football director John Murtough. “While we are sorry to see him go, we accept and understand Michael’s decision.”

“He will always be remembered as one of Manchester United’s greatest midfielders, as well as a superb coach who has worked relentlessly under two managers to help create the strong group that Ralf will now lead. We appreciate Michael’s steady leadership during this moment of management change, and although he will no longer be involved on a daily basis, he will always be welcome back as a club great.”
