A day after Netflix released its ratings, the streaming service revealed it would be sharing viewing numbers for popular shows. The company is currently testing this new feature with a limited number of titles including Stranger Things, House of Cards and Black Mirror.
The “most-watched netflix shows 2021” is a list of popular Netflix shows that will be revealed for the first time. This will help Netflix and other streaming services to better understand what their viewers want to watch.

Netflix is about to release its figures.
The streaming behemoth has created a new website that showcases its most popular TV series and movies.
The website will effectively function as a scorecard, listing the most popular Netflix shows and films in both English and international languages. It also lists the top 10 titles in 90 countries to show how well its titles are selling throughout the world.
The new rankings are based on the amount of hours each item has been seen collectively on Netflix, rather than how many individuals watched each episode or film.
Previously, Netflix’s rankings were based on the number of unique accounts that saw a certain title, but the company’s definition of what constituted a “view” was contentious.
Netflix said in an October letter to shareholders that it will switch to a reporting mechanism that tracked the total number of hours customers spent watching each title.
‘It’s difficult to figure out how to effectively assess success in streaming,’ Netflix said in a blog post.
The new rankings will be determined by the total number of hours a title has been seen by subscribers. Netflix is to thank for this video.
‘After reviewing the various options, we believe that engagement, as measured by hours viewed, is a strong indicator of a title’s popularity, as well as overall member satisfaction, which is critical for subscription service retention,’ wrote Pablo Perez De Rosso, the company’s vice president of content strategy.
This includes repeat viewing, which the corporation views to be a “strong indicator of member happiness.”
The disadvantage of this strategy is that lengthier films and series tend to outperform shorter series and specials. Netflix will also issue specialized lists, such as “best documentary features or reality series,” to address this difference.
In addition, the corporation has hired accounting firm Ernst & Young to examine its finances, with a report due out next year.
Netflix’s credibility will be boosted as a result of these reporting efforts. The rankings will be a clear indicator of whether Netflix’s billions spent on original programming are being converted into views.
Netflix originals, rather than Netflix rentals, now dominate the Top 10 rankings. Netflix’s Red Notice, for example, is now at the top of the list with 148.72 million hours of watching.
If Netflix has the stats to back it up, it’s also a fantastic method for them to recruit top Hollywood talent for future projects.
Netflix has traditionally kept its audience a secret, but two years ago it began to selectively share some of its own data, but only when they were flattering to the firm.
There are a few caveats to the new rating system. The total number of hours members throughout the globe watched each title from Monday to Sunday the previous week is used to rank titles. However, since not everyone watches new series every week, this will simply count the amount of individuals that binge-watch a show.
People viewing new episodes beyond the first 28 days will not be considered, therefore a different chart will rank Netflix original titles based on the hours they were seen during that time.

Netflix has been ramping up its development of successful original series.
It dominated the Emmys, defeating HBO and matching CBS for the most victories of any television platform ever. To put things in perspective, CBS has been producing material since the 1970s, but Netflix has barely been around for a decade.
Netflix’s decision to make viewing data public is a challenge to rival streaming providers such as Disney+ and Hulu to follow suit.
According to Neilsen, Netflix accounted for 6% of total TV viewing time in the United States in September. YouTube accounted for 6% of the market, Hulu for 3%, and Disney+ for 1% of the market.
Advertisers are the primary audience for conventional TV ratings, but Netflix does not broadcast commercials on its platform—yet. However, via commercial placement in its original content, the streaming service is laying the groundwork for lucrative collaborations.
Netflix has always denied performing paid product placement, but that may change as the firm strives to earn cash to pay off its $18.51 billion debt and battle for market share.
