Robert Griffin III, the Washington Redskins’ quarterback, made a shocking announcement on Thursday morning. In an interview with ESPN’s Josina Anderson, he said that the team was going to release backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke due to “financial reasons.”
The sportscasting website is reporting that Robert Griffin III’s shocking announcement about the Washington Football Team could cost Taylor Heinicke $1.5 million.
Robert Griffin III (yep, the same Robert Griffin III who was once regarded as a franchise quarterback) isn’t about to give up on his football ambition.
The former No. 2 overall pick says on the newest edition of The Adam Schefter Podcast that he is now preparing for a comeback to the NFL.
During his radio interview, Griffin III mentions one specific club that piques his curiosity and with which he is intimately acquainted.
Robert Griffin III wants to return to his hometown of Washington, D.C.
Griffin III (commonly known as RGIII) makes the point in his interview with Schefter that he would be happy to work for any NFL club. Griffin III, on the other hand, reacted favorably when asked about the Washington Football Team as a possible possibility.
Griffin added, “That would have to be something Coach Ron Rivera and the club would be receptive to.” “Never say never,” says the narrator. Is it something I’d be interested in? Yeah, I’d want to go back and be able to bring it all full circle.”
Griffin says later in the podcast that he isn’t necessarily “begging” to return to Washington. However, given that the Football club will be without starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for at least another two weeks, they make sense as a possible landing place.
Griffin most recently played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as a backup quarterback to Lamar Jackson. Last season, RGIII only started one game for the Ravens and struggled mightily. In 2020, the former Rookie of the Year ended with a QBR of 25.6.
The possibility of RGIII returning to Washington bodes doom for the fan favorite. Taylor Heinicke is a musician from the United States.
🚨 According to reports, Taylor Heineke will make his debut in Week 2 when the #WFT hosts the #Giants. Yesterday, Heineke took over for an ailing Ryan Fitzpatrick, throwing for a touchdown and a strong 119.3 QB rating. Kyle Allen will take over as the No. 2 quarterback.

With Fitzpatrick out indefinitely, the Football Team’s starting quarterback responsibilities are now in the hands of Taylor Heinicke, a former XFL player.
In the Washington, D.C., region, Heinicke is becoming a fan favorite. It’s worth considering if the Football Team will try to replace him in the future. Heinicke is a restricted passer in comparison to the rest of the NFL, and a late interception almost lost the Football Team an easy victory over the New York Giants.
The addition of another quarterback to the roster, whether it’s RGIII or a different free agent (Cam Newton, anyone? ), means doom for Heinicke.
Heinicke may earn up to $1.5 million in incentives this season if he wins games in which he plays at least 60% of the snaps (Washington Football Wire). He can kiss that additional money goodbye if he loses his starting position to someone like Griffin III.
Griffin III replacing Heinicke seems improbable in the end.

While RGIII’s return to Washington and replacement of Heinicke would be a feel-good tale for the ages, it seems improbable.
Griffin III did not seem to be a capable starter in his one outing with the Ravens, and the Washington coaching staff seems to prefer Heinicke. Following Cam Newton’s unexpected release, Ron Rivera went on public as saying he has no immediate intentions to add a free agency quarterback to the squad.
In the NFL, anything can happen in a couple of seconds. Meanwhile, Heinicke may exhale a sense of relief over his possible $1.5 million bonus check.
Now all he has to think about is winning games and making money.
